Evaluation.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms of and conventions of real media product?

We got our influences from the videos we analyzed during the research process. We researched and took most influence from videos for bands in a similar music genre to the band we were using as we thought this would be more effective.
We also got ideas from Andrew Goodwin's Codes and Conventions which we learnt in class during the research.
Our video uses the forms and conventions of real media products as we include elements of both narrative and performance, as most professional videos do.
We included simple effects such as dissolves and close ups of the star, which are common in most music videos.
We challenged the forms and conventions as we did not include the star in the narrative, we decided to use actors and we included the song in the narrative by having one of the actors listening to it on their ipod. This also challenges the Forms and Conventions by having a bit of narrative at the beginning before the music kicks in, which is not common in most music videos.
In our video we tried to make the visual elements relate to the song through illustration, we used the actors to act out what we interpreted the song to mean, as we thought this would be a simple yet effective storyline.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts.

We took our influences for the ancillary texts from examples that we researched. We followed guidelines of things that we saw were common amongst many.
The posters and Digipaks promote the band used in our music video, they use a colour scheme and use Pictures of the artist that represents the style of the band and their music.

3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

From our audience feedback we found that people thought the effects we used on our video were appropriate however we did not use many. They also said that the pace of our editing was not fast enough. However, we did this because from our original target audience research we learnt that the majority of people thought that effects were not that important and can look bad when overused.
The majority of our audience feedback said that they did not think our video looked professional however we included Andrew Goodwin's Codes and Conventions of a music video that we learnt in class.
People said that our digipak and poster looked eyecatching, this is good as we wanted them to stand out so people would notice them.

4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction / research / planning and evaluation stages.

For the research stages I used youtube to watch examples of other music videos, as this was the best and easiest way to find other music videos.

I used Myspace to find the band who's music we used, and to research about them.

For the construction i used a semi-professional video camera. I found the camera easy to set up and use. I used a tripod to hold the camera on.

To edit our video I used Adobe Premiere pro on the college computers in the edit suite. I found this software easy to use. I used the time line to put our clips in order and then dragged the transition effect that i wanted to use over the top of the clip which i wanted to dissolve. I added the black and white effect by dragging the effect from the effect options in the programme and putting it over the clips i wanted to be black and white. The most difficult bit was adding the effects to the video.

To design and make the digipak and promotional poster i used Adobe Photo shop. I found this fairly complicated and difficult to use however once i had learnt what all of the different tools did, it got easier. I used the vector tool to cut out the picture of the lead singer and place him on the background.

I used Blogger.com to keep an account or all the work i have done, throughout the research /planning / construction and evaluation stages.
